What is Hypnotherapy & Who Can Benefit?

There are many forms of psychological therapy, however, hypnotherapy is distinctive because it deals with the client’s subconscious mind. Everything that is experienced, from birth up to the present, is recorded in the subconscious mind; usually we are unaware of this information. Physical behavior stems from the subconscious, i.e. the way we feel about ourselves. Hypnotherapy is a way of releasing negative thought and emotions that can make us feel unhappy and unable to live a fulfilled and normal life.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind, achieved through physical and mental relaxation, allowing communication with the subconscious mind. This state of mind may be achieved by oneself unaided (self-hypnosis) or with the help of another person (a hypnotist/ hypnotherapist).

Some Common Concerns

People are often concerned of ‘losing control’ during hypnosis. Contrary to this thought, scientific tests have proved that regardless of how deeply a person may go into trance (deep relaxation) and however passive he or she may be in temperament, a person will always be in full control of the situation. A person is able to talk if they wish to and can move positions.

Clients often tell me that the experience is really pleasant and the added bonus of hypnotherapy is that the body releases endorphins the ‘feel good factors’ that heal and repair the body. Hypnotherapy conducted by a fully qualified and experienced therapist is safe and gentle.

Healing during a trance state has been achieved for thousands of years; the earliest recording may be found in the Ebers Papyrus – the medical records of the ancient Egyptians. Modern medicine is based on these observations. Virtually every culture throughout the world has used hypnosis in one form or another.
